Globally, women face distinct barriers to reducing their risk of cancer as well as to obtaining a timely diagnosis and treatment if they develop the disease, according to findings from a Lancet Commission. In general, women are more likely than men to face financial catastrophe due to cancer and are less likely to have the knowledge and power to make informed decisions about their health care, the report noted. Women also perform most unpaid caregiving for people with cancer.

The proportion of health care visits delivered by nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) has increased quickly in the US, according to data collected from about 276 million visits. By 2019, the proportion of visits that NPs and PAs provided had risen to nearly 26%, an increase from 14% in 2013.

More than 3% of US adults had post–COVID-19 condition, or long COVID, at the time of a 2022 National Health Interview Survey, and about 7% reported ever having had the condition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced. A similar trend held for children, with 0.5% having long COVID at the time of the survey and 1.3% ever having had the condition.
