Long-term exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation is associated with an increased risk of death from solid cancer, based on data from nearly 310 000 people from France, the United Kingdom, and the US who worked in the nuclear industry. The findings can “help to strengthen radiation protection, especially for low dose exposures that are of primary interest in contemporary medical, occupational, and environmental settings,” the researchers wrote in The BMJ.
