Tranexamic acid, which slows blood clot breakdown, was no more effective than placebo for reducing maternal death or the need for blood transfusion after scheduled or emergency cesarean delivery nor did it reduce the proportion of patients who lost more than 1 L of blood, according to a large randomized clinical trial that included 11 000 participants from 31 US hospitals. There was no difference in medication-related adverse events between groups.
